A lot of people don’t know what fascism is.
You probably don’t even know what socialism is.
They may even have heard about communism, which is the more obvious of the two, but neither is the term “fascist” in the same way that “socialism” is in the US or Europe.
But if you’re talking about fascism, you need to be careful what you say.
There are lots of ways to talk, but not all of them are good.
So here are some tips on how to talk in the age of fascism.
1.
Be careful not to make comparisons.
While you may have heard a lot about fascism being used by people who hate the left, you’re unlikely to find many people on the right who are willing to equate their views to that of a Nazi.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that people on both sides of the political spectrum are different.
People on the far right, like neo-Nazis and white supremacists, don’t generally equate their ideologies to fascism.
They’re not even opposed to it.
In fact, many of them see it as a positive thing that allows them to be more assertive.
A lot more people on a right-wing website are likely to see fascism as a tool for keeping down those on the left who dare to question the status quo.
And while you may find the left-wing label “fascist”, the label doesn’t necessarily mean you have to use it in a negative way.
The left-leaning label for fascism is “anarcho-capitalism”.
If you’re in the middle of a discussion about fascism and want to say something nice, you can use the term to describe the left’s position.
But avoid using the term in a way that sounds like it’s meant to denigrate the right or any specific political group.
2.
Avoid saying “they” or “them”.
If the left is describing the fascists, say “they”.
If it’s describing the right, say, “them.”
The word “them” can be used in two ways.
The first is when you’re referring to a specific individual or group.
You could say “their”, “theirself”, “theyre” or something else that makes it sound like the term itself refers to that individual or a group.
The other way is to say “people”.
You could also say “our”, “ourselves”, “themselves”, or “they’re”.
You don’t need to use the first two.
The term “they”, on the other hand, has an associated negative connotation.
The problem is that it’s a pejorative term.
It implies that people are weak and weak-willed.
The word itself also suggests a lack of intelligence.
People who use the word “they,” on the side of the line between “them,” “theyselves” and “theyres” are being condescending and implying that the “theys” are somehow weaker or less intelligent than the “thems”.
3.
Use the word as an adjective rather than a noun.
It doesn’t matter if you use the phrase “they did it,” “the fascists did it” or just “they do it.”
The same rule applies to terms like “racism,” “anti-Semitism,” “white supremacy” and the like.
If you use “racists” or other terms to describe a group, then you’re saying that you believe that the group is racist, anti-Semitic, or white supremacist.
You’re also not saying “the people who committed the crime” or that they’re the perpetrators.
Instead, you should say that the crime was committed by a group that has a history of antisemitism, anti, racial and xenophobic hate speech and has a reputation for targeting minorities and other marginalized groups.
4.
Avoid calling people Nazis.
While it’s important to use terms like fascist, Nazi and “fascist,” it’s not the best way to describe how someone might behave.
“Nazi” is a term that means someone who uses a Nazi ideology to achieve political goals.
The phrase “fascist, Nazi” is just a euphemism for “anti fascist.”
And the phrase, “racist, white supremacist,” is a euphemistic way to refer to anyone who doesn’t agree with you on any other issues.
5.
Be aware of the media.
The internet is full of stories about fascism.
But even if you have the opportunity to hear one, it’s unlikely that it will change your mind.
If something comes out about fascism that you can’t accept, then it’s likely to make you feel even more angry and frustrated.
Instead of using the media to hype up fascism, try to focus on the bigger picture.
Focus on the fact that fascism is growing and that it threatens to destroy the world.
If there’s one thing that can be said for sure, it will be that fascists are a growing threat to democracy and to democracy’s institutions.
