The most hated politician in the Catholic Church is a former social services minister who has been accused of spreading racist and anti-Semitic views.
According to the Daily Mail, Father Michael Marcielis has become the latest figure in the world of politics to be labelled a fascist, with critics saying he has used the “power of the press” to incite violence against minorities and political opponents.
The 76-year-old, who was once a member of the governing coalition in the northern Italian province of Trentino, has also been accused by the government of inciting violence against his political opponents, and using the media to attack people on the left.
“He was born into a Catholic family, but he has shown an absolute disdain for the Catholic faith,” Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi told reporters at a news conference on Wednesday.
“This is not only an individual but a whole country and a whole community.
We will never forget this.”
Father Marciels has shown that he has an absolute hatred of everything and everybody,” he said.
He has been suspended from his post in the Vatican’s social services department and ordered to undergo “mental and psychological treatment”.
The Vatican has accused him of spreading “lies and malicious rumors” about the Catholic church and accused him with “fascistic” tendencies, which is punishable by a year in prison.
But Father Marcielo is believed to have played a role in organising rallies, organising political protests and spreading anti-Muslim and anti–Jewish statements.
According for example, the Vatican has repeatedly described Marcieli as a “sister of fascism” and has branded him “the most hated man in Italy”.”
We have to show our solidarity with the families of the victims, who have been murdered by the anti-Semitism of his hate speech,” Renzi said.
The government is demanding that Marciela be prosecuted for inciting violence and encouraging attacks against people on political opponents in order to defend the Catholic doctrine of subsidiarity.
The Italian newspaper Il Giornale also said MarciELis had organised rallies for the Italian National Front (ANF) and the anti–Muslim National Alliance (NA).”
In recent weeks, the media in Italy has been filled with reports of violence and anti-Semitic attacks, with reports from across the country alleging that anti-Semites were targeting Jewish schools and synagogues.”
I am convinced that it was not a mistake to put me on the front lines.”
