China is now the main antagonist of the global socialist movement, with the communist country’s actions often leading to mass unemployment, poverty and social exclusion, according to a new book.
The book, by China’s Communist Party-linked think-tank, the China Institute of International Studies (CIIIS), is a scathing assessment of the world socialist movement.
It was published on Monday, two days after the US president, Donald Trump, accused the country of “criminal behaviour”.
It follows a similar assessment of US president-elect Joe Biden in his inauguration speech, saying that the US “cannot be trusted to defend the interests of the American people”.
In his book, China’s China Institute director Zhang Jieyi said China had a “very long history of anti-democratic behaviour” and had used “theocratic, chauvinistic and ultra-nationalist slogans to gain power and gain political control”.
The authors also said the country’s leaders had not been interested in developing a genuine international socialist movement that would be based on the rights of workers, farmers and other marginalised groups.
The US, he added, was “the only country that does not support the international socialist development process”.
The CIIIS said that China’s anti-Americanism was rooted in a deep and enduring anti-communism that was “part of a long tradition of nationalistic, chauffeured and anti-capitalist sentiments in Chinese society”.
It added that it was the responsibility of US policymakers to “correct” this situation and to “develop a genuine global socialist system based on universal rights, democratic accountability and a genuine democratic and social revolution”.
The book is based on research conducted by the CIIES and published in Chinese in 2016, when the world was still divided between “capitalist” and “socialist” factions.
The report said the communist party had long been “one of the most dangerous forces of anti‑Americanism in China”, with Mao Zedong, the founder of the country, having been a prominent figure in the Chinese Communist Party and “one who played a key role in shaping the ideology of China’s rise to power”.
In the 20th century, the Chinese communist party’s official journal, the People’s Daily, published an article entitled “The Cultural Revolution and the Socialist Revolution in China” in 1950, which said the Soviet Union had been “a tool of the United States in the development of Marxism-Leninism and communism”.
The same year, the CIC said in a press release that the Chinese Communists “have been actively and repeatedly carrying out the Cultural Revolution, a program of state-sponsored, brutal, terror and persecution of their own people and people abroad, for a long time, and have continued to carry out such terror in this way.”
In his speech in January, Trump said the US had “a lot of bad people”.
“It is time to get rid of them,” he said.
“We have to get them out.”
“China is the greatest country on earth and it is very important,” Trump added.
“It’s time to make America great again.
We have a lot of people that have tremendous talent.”
China is a key player in the global trade of commodities, and is a major importer of US goods.
In his remarks, Trump also blamed China for the death of US singer Robert Johnson, who died in the city of Lhasa, on his 80th birthday in 2011.
“China has been stealing our goods, and they’re killing our singers, too,” he added.
He later claimed Johnson had been poisoned.
“He had a lot to do with it.
He was in China and they did a lot.
They did a good job.”
He said he believed Johnson was killed because the US did not approve of his music.
“I don’t think so,” Trump said.
He said the music industry had been hurt by the government’s “illegal” export restrictions, which had hurt China’s economy.
“They are stealing our music.
They are stealing all of our music,” he claimed.
“Somebody said to me the other day, ‘Why do they take so much music?’
Because the music business is very bad.”
Trump said he was “really disappointed” by the president-Elect’s decision to nominate Judge Neil Gorsuch to the US Supreme Court.
Trump was speaking in a series of tweets about Gorsuch, a former federal judge from Colorado.
He claimed that he was a “big fan” of Gorsuch’s “big heart” and said that his “compassion” for the people of the US was “very refreshing”.
The president-Pence, who has made the centre-right position a hallmark of his administration, has frequently criticised China for its actions in the South China Sea and other disputes.
He also criticised China’s move to build a military base in Taiwan and called for China to stop supporting North Korea.
China has not commented on the report.
The Communist Party has also accused the US of using “blackmail” to coerce it.
